"On April 4 we had new snow on the ground. I had assumed that we would not find anything because the weather was still pretty cool. But I took my students outside anyway to check, and there they were popping up above the new snow." - Dr. Clarissa K. Cole

A spring snowstorm could not stop these Wyoming tulips from emerging and growing! The weather up till the snowstorm must have been right for tulips to emerge. What does that tell you about the soil temperature?

What affect would the snow have on the tulip plants? Do you think it would damage them? Think: snow acts like a blanket on the earth. Would the soil temperature be kept stable by the snow?
