Highlights: Saskatchewan Springtime
You probably notice the map shows a lot of green near and above the 50° N Latitude line. The gardeners here are still waiting for their tulips to bloom. They do think they will see some red before the end of May.

Springtime includes snow in Saskatchewan. "We have snow on the ground again. The tulips probably will bloom before the end of May," wrote gardeners in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan on May 5.

Not all of the tulips were mushy at Sherrod Elementary in Palmer, Alaska! As their daytime temperatures soared up to the 60 F range some tulips made it to the surface. "TULIPS!!! We have emergence!! We found five sprouts in the tulip patch on May 4. We will continue to monitor for more emergers, and hope for a blossom before the end of the school year."

Is there still hope for the students' garden in Regina, Saskatchewan? There were disappointed when their tulips didn't emerge, "None of our 27 tulips have emerged and when I dug down to check one out, the bulb was soft."

After reading about the garden in Palmer, do you think there will be some survivors?

At Trailside Elementary in Anchorage, Alaska, the outlook is good for blooming tulips. This week they sent a photo and this report, "It should be in the upper 50s / low 60s this week with lots of sun due to the lovely high pressure system hanging around. I suspect we might see some tulip blooms this week." We'll let you know!

From mushy to meaty — this Palmer, Alaska garden did survive winter!

Explore: What Did I Learn?

The tulip garden project wraps up by the end of May. Like actual scientists, you have made predictions, interpreted maps, read and discussed slideshows, responded to journal and map questions, asked your own questions, and dug into lessons and handouts.

How can you show what you have learned? Try creating a portfolio, an advertisement, or a display.
