Taking Up the Chalk for the Georgia O'Keeffe Challenge

Judy Huter took the Georgia O'Keeffe challenge with
her 4th grade students to really look at their tulips and create large
flower pictures. "The
students really enjoyed working with the chalk. I have
found if they put white chalk on the paper first, the colors blend so
much better."

Each piece of artwork was uniquely crafted, "This is the first year that we took
pictures of our tulips on a cloudy day. The blossoms on
many of the tulips were not entirely open. Hence, the different shapes."

Sharing the TulipGarden Project with the School Board Last year my class of 14 students set up tri-fold displays and they explained the lessons we did for Journey North to School Board members. The students were a nice group to work with. We also had a larger bi-fold display with our chalk drawings on one side and our map of the tulip gardens on the other. Many parents came. It was nice to be able to explain what the program was about. |
