What Can You Learn from Observers?

02/10/10 Dequeen, Arkansas:
Today, for the first time, we actually saw some of our tulips emerging from the ground. They were only about 0.5cm up, but we could see them! Most of us think they will bloom around the first week of March, but a few think it will be the middle of March. We are really excited about this project!

02/08/10 Newport News, Virginia:
We have 2 different emergence dates. I'll predict [using our data from the past 12 years] that the batch that emerged in January will bloom 3/24 and the batch that's emerging now in February will bloom 3/16.
That seems to be what happened in 2006/2007 and 2001/2002. It seems the earlier the tulips emerge the later they tend to bloom.

02/05/10 Kearns, Utah:
The bulbs are sprouting, they look reddish/purpleish. Some are bigger than others, and not all of them are up yet, only a few have been spotted.

02/02/10 Lynnwood, Washington:
Hi! I am one of the tulip bulbs at Martha Lake. My name is Bob, the bulb. Some of my cousins are just beginning to sprout - that means to emerge from the dirt. It is a sunny day and Room 204 has finally come down to check on us. The sun shinning bright on us and the temperature is about 50F degrees. Most of my cousins haven't shown up yet, they're still babies I guess. You all better be checking your bulbs to see if any of them have sprouted.
