Update: February 11, 2010
Please report:

Welcome to the Tulip Test Garden experiment! Snow is the big word for the week: snow day, snow cover, snow storm, snow emergency! How might a cold blanket of snow affect Journey North Tulip Gardens? Find out how many official weather observers help us track the weather. Then track your own weather at your school site.

Maps: Is There Green Under that White?

Tulips are emerging in fits and starts. Reports of emergence are few for the past few days. There may be tulips popping up, but no one can find them under the blanket of snow! Look for the green triangles on today's map. How many can you count this week?
Keep your eye on the maps — and don't forget to stop at your garden for a quick look now and then.

There are so many weather maps! This week we will study a couple more. Check out how many official weather observers help us track the weather in this week's map questions handout.

Did You Know? You Are a Meteorologist!
As you make local observations and analyze maps, and data, you have learned to think critically about how weather influences seasonal events.

Follow Your Weather: You can set up a weather station, or simply go out and track the weather at your school.

How does snow change things in the garden?
With so much fresh snow on the ground this week why not head outside for some snow investigations?

  1. First come up with a good question that you can investigate.
  2. Then design an experiment that will help you answer your question.
  3. Will you need a thermometer? Shovel? What supplies do you need?

Grab your supplies and your notebooks and head out to the snowy garden.
