Highlights: Celebration Spring Blooms |
The wait for tulip blooms was over for many gardeners on the East Coast and in Great Lakes states this week. Fluctuating temperatures brought a burst of tulip growth, and now cooler weather is holding them steady.
Blooming Gardens
This was first week of spring 2015 where more blooming gardens were reported than emerging gardens.
"Our tulips bloomed over the weekend! Now they are closed because it's been very cold!"
04/23/15 Middlebury, Indiana 41.6°N
"There is light snow and freezing rain falling right now. Some of our blooming tulips have closed up because of the precipitation."
4/20/15 Apple Valley, Minnesota 45°N
"It has been extremely dry and windy here, but our tulip blossoms are gorgeous."
04/20/15 Jamestown, North Dakota 47°N
Emerging Gardens
Keep an eye on the map to watch for the northernmost gardens to emerge.
"The very day the snow melted in the flower bed the tulips emerged." 04/16/15 Canaan, Maine 45°N
"Warm weather has awakened the tulips in the tractor tire garden." 04/15/15 Viking, Minnesota 48°
Art and the Flower
Take an artistic journey from the garden to the classroom inspired by Georgia O'Keeffe's art! Celebrate the beauty of a tulip flower or any other wonder of spring.
