Letter From Estela Romero: Many Visitors at the Sanctuaries

Dear friends,
Despite the travel restrictions across the world, people are still visiting the Monarch Butterfly Biosphere Reserve to view the extraordinary phenomenon of overwintering monarchs in Central Mexico.
For the past 12 years, the winter seasons have been mild. We no longer have cold, grey, freezing temperatures and snow from December to March. Winter is not long anymore. This winter has not been different. Cold fronts have lasted only a few days and then turn back into sunny and warm days.
It is in this mostly warm and sunny winter context that hundreds of tourists arrive to our sanctuaries to see the peak of the monarch overwintering season, especially on the weekends.
The Monarch Butterfly Biosphere Reserve continues to be recognized and supported by organizations and institutions, both nationally and internationally. Mexico proudly celebrates the Monarch Butterfly Biosphere Reserve with a beautiful image of one of the most impressive view points in Sierra Chincua Sanctuary on our one hundred pesos bill. Mexico and the whole world continue celebrating monarchs as one of the most complex and amazing migrating phenomenons in nature.
