Journey North relies upon writers to help us tell the story of monarch migration.
- Estela Romero helps us tell the story from monarchs' overwintering grounds in Mexico. A certified English teacher, Estela lives in Angangueo, Michoacán, Mexico. She is passionate about nature, local life in the region, Mexican culture, history, and traditions. Estela is an environmental educator with Monarchs Across Georgia and coordinates the Symbolic Migration program in Mexico. With funding from the Monarch Butterfly Fund, she writes articles for Journey North. In these articles, Estela provides a direct link to the El Rosario and Sierra Chincua Sanctuaries in central México. She has written articles for Journey North since 2007.
- Gail Morris writes our western news updates, which includes updates from overwintering sites in California. She is the coordinator of the Southwest Monarch Study. She is also a Monarch Watch conservation specialist, the vice president of the Central Arizona Butterfly Association, and participates in several western monarch working groups. She has been active in monarch conservation and training community scientists around the Southwest United States since 2006.
