Is Spring Coming?

Snowy weather has stalled springtime for many gardeners. Southern garden tulips are blooming. We're having a topsy-turvy April.

Winter-like Weather

Earlier this week night time temperatures dropped down into the teens across the Upper Midwest and into Canada. This week snow storms dropped up to 10” of snow in Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Michigan. Can tulip plants survive cold and snow?

“Tulips have emerged! Low’s around 14F tonight so I shoveled snow on top of them to keep them warm tonight.” Mahtomedi, Minnesota on March 30th.

Blooming Red

Spring break marks the time that many tulip Test Gardens bloom. Watch the map to see how many more red dots appear this week.
