Welcoming
the Waves!
Wow. 96 new Ruby-throated hummingbird reports this week! Rainy
weather in Texas last week gave way to sunny skies, and the migration
marches on. Meanwhile, Rufous hummers are pushing into Canada
from the Northwest. Second graders way up in Wrangle, AK, are
wondering when they'll see some of the action. (Meet
them here >>)
Last month, males of both species seemed to be leading the way.
But now females are reported to be charging north in greater numbers.
What do you think is going on? (Learn more here
>>)
Join us this week as we explore how migrating hummers get the
energy they need to dart, dive, and fly toward you!

How Does This Year Compare? |

The
dots on the maps are popping up like crazy as reports roll in. Is this
year "normal" or unusual? Take a look at three years of Ruby-throated
hummingbird maps, then decide what you think!

Ruby-throat migration ahead of, behind, or about the same as it was
in 2005 and 2006? What things might affect the timing? >>
