Welcome to Journey North's Symbolic Migration

Bienvenidas las Mariposas Simbolicas!
Just like the real monarchs, your colorful paper butterflies have made the journey across the continent and landed in Mexico. The shipment, with almost 2,000 beautiful classroom butterflies, left headquarters one week ago. At the other end of their journey the butterflies will meet Estela Romero and her faithful little red Volkswagon. Learn about how the VW got its name from the adventures of Don Quijote de la Mancha and Sancho Panza. Who sent butterflies to Mexico? Find your name on the 2010 Passenger List.

A Big "Hola" from a Little Red Volkswagon!

On Their Way to Mexico!

At this very moment, along the migration route the real monarchs are winging their way to the oyamel forests of central Mexico where they will be met by millions of other monarchs.

Just like the real monarchs, your symbolic butterflies are making their way to the monarch's wintering grounds. Once they arrive they will be shared with the students in this mountainous area.

Each winter for the past 17 years, Journey North students have sent messages of concern for this amazing butterfly who relies on the cooperation of Canada, the United States, and Mexico for its survival. Thank you for your part in helping the monarch!

Your butterflies carry a message that's loud and clear:
“Thank you for taking care of our Monarchs!”
"Hola" from Mexico

Dear girls, boys and teachers,
"Our red VW bug is ready to be loaded with your Symbolic Monarchs and carry them to our friends at schools that surround the nearby monarch sanctuaries..."

Estela Romero sends her greetings along with an introduction to a very special part of the exchange between you and the children in our region. Read what she has to say this week:
