Dear Journey North Friends:
We know that you have had a terribly cold year this winter. We could see on television the amount of snow and what low temperatures you have had to endure. We would not survive such cold weather.
We have also had a very cold winter. Our lowest temperatures dropped to 0°C for some days. Cloudy and rainy days even affect our mood, since, at least half of the year, we are used to having sunny weather.
Compared to the cold time you are having, ours is warm, but remember that we do not have any heating system at all at home or at school. So this makes it not easy. Our clothes are perhaps also not the best for our climate. Many of us should learn to dress up better according to our weather conditions at this time of year!
Here some photos of our winter living:
When going to bed at night, Laura Emilia has to put on very warm pajamas and socks. If necessary, she wraps up her feet with something very warm. Laura Emilia's bed has 7 blankets!
Our homes were built many decades ago and the ceilings are too high. With no heating systems, our way to stay warm at home is by turning on the gas stove to cook something.
In order to keep warm during the day outside, we have to wear very warm underwear, a thin cotton sweater, a woolen sweater above, and then a very warm jacket. Tights, boots and warm jeans are the best we can choose.
At school, it is impossible to have any heating source so we get warm by each other´s body-heat!
Let´s hope that this freezing winter is about to be over. Meanwhile, let´s run to our wardrobe and look for one more warm garment which will help us stand this terrible cold! Brrr!!!
