Highlights: Spring is Blooming!
Since our last update there are 16 new blooming gardens. That brings a total of 47 Journey North gardens showing red so far this spring. How is your garden looking?

Cool temperatures continued in the south this past week, slowing down the rate of growth in the gardens:

"Our tulips are finally blooming! They are outstanding and look as red as Rudolph's shiny nose! They make our school look so pretty and we feel like dancing whenever we see them (24 days after emerging)!" Gainesville, Georgia

Meanwhile the trend for warmer than average temperatures in the north continues. But spring temperatures are fickle!

"It was very exciting to see the little sprouts of 5 tulips poking through the straw mulch! We can't wait to see if more arrive this week. Winter came back with temperatures in the 20's and 30's this weekend after several days of 50's and 60's.Forecast for the week ahead is back to the 50's." Marlborough, New Hampshire

Focus: Art and the Unexpected Beauty of Spring
"Nobody sees a flower, really--it is so small--we haven't time, and to see takes time, like to have a friend takes time." Georgia O'Keeffe (1887-1986)

Plan now to do something special to celebrate the symbol of springtime in your garden. Take an artistic journey using clues from Georgia O'Keeffe's art!

Gather your blooming tulips, or tulip pictures, paper, and chalk. Use this technique to focus and capture the beauty of a tulip flower, or any other wonder of spring.

Explore: Help "Bob the Bulb" Outsmart the Critters

Students in Lynnwood, Washington introduced Bob when their tulips emerged 02/02/10.

"Hi! I am one of the tulip bulbs at Martha Lake. My name is Bob, the Bulb."

Now he's back with his blooming report 03/24/10:

"Hello! It's Bob again, but I am not just a bulb any more. I am a blooming tulip! As you know my cousins and I have been sprouting since we last talked. But I, I mean, we have had a big problem: KILLER RABBITS!"

Critters can be a big problem in the tulip garden. Do you have a problem like Bob? What can you do to outsmart those critters? Read on:
