News:
Temperature Swings Warm and Cold |
"We
had a very warm week in early February. Our tulips have started to emerge
due to this warm period. Now it is cold again, we hope it doesn't hurt
our tulips. "
Are springtime
temperatures ever steady? How do the swings in temperature affect the
tulips? As temperatures rise and fall across the continent what kind of
patterns do you see?
Do
the Math:
We now have 73 gardens emerging out of 463 planted. What percent have
emerged?

Discoveries
in the School Yard
|
Hepburn-Lycoming
Elementary School, Cogan Station, PA, 02/24/09
"While outside for recess today it was discovered that several
of our tulips had emerged. 60+ kindergarten children went crazy! |
"They
were so excited. We grabbed cameras and took pictures, we wrote to
our pen pals at another elementary school, we wrote another page in
our class journal, and we wrote a sentence strip and made an illustration
for our 'hallway tulip news.' The students were so excited that this
was the topic of conversation for the rest of the afternoon."

But
here's a question to ponder: "Does
spring truly move northward?"

Garden
Sleuths: Spring Along the 45 Degree Line |
This
week we're exploring the question about spring's movement across the
continent. Five tulip gardeners have volunteered to help us. Each
of their gardens is found along 45 degrees North, from the East coast
to the western edge of the continent. Each is
almost exactly the same distance from the Equator. |
Read
descriptions of each of the 5 garden locations. You be the detective
and decide if you think they will emerge at the same time, or predict
otherwise!
